Day 1. Meeting in Atlanta. Georgia State Capitol. Centennial Olympic Park and the Aquarium. The house where Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone with the Wind, lived. Evening transfer to Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Day 2. In Chattanooga – the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway, Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park, the site of fierce Civil War battles. Ruby Falls and the fairy-tale Rock City. Overnight in Winchester, TN.
Day 3. Tour of the Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg. Nashville, the capital of Tennessee. Capitol district. Historic downtown. Centennial Park and the Parthenon. Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Overnight in Nashville, TN.
Day 4. The Hermitage – the plantation of the 7th U.S. President Andrew Jackson. Walk in Burgess Falls State Park. Evening transfer to Knoxville, TN.
Day 5. Tourist towns of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Misty Appalachian panoramas and park walks. Blue Ridge Trail – one of America’s best scenic roads. Overnight in Asheville, NC.
Day 6. The Vanderbilt estate Biltmore – the largest private family residence in the U.S., designed by architects Richard Hunt and Frederick Olmsted, an embodiment of America’s “Gilded Age.” Second half of the day at Chimney Rock Park on the Broad River. Overnight in Columbia, SC.
Day 7. Columbia – the capital of South Carolina. Congaree National Park, home to the largest floodplain forest in the United States. Magnolia Plantation near Charleston. Sand dunes on the Isle of Palms, a resort town on the Atlantic coast. Overnight in Charleston, SC.
Day 8. Boat trip in the bay to Fort Sumter, where the Civil War began with the April 1861 bombardment. Waterfront Park. Overnight in Savannah, GA.
Day 9. Walk through downtown Savannah, “the first city of colonial Georgia.” The program includes a visit to one of the oldest synagogues in the American South, Mickve Israel. “The city of columns” – Macon. Overnight in McDonough, GA.
Day 10. Stone Mountain with its carved figures of Confederate leaders and the aerial tramway to the top. Transfer to Hartsfield–Jackson Airport in Atlanta.
Tour cost: $1,850 (includes transportation on a comfortable tourist-class bus, hotels, tour services, and entrance fees to listed attractions).
Single-room supplement: $750.
Not included: airfare and meals.
Dates: April 20–29.
Arrival in Atlanta (Hartsfield–Jackson) on the first day of the tour before 13:00.
Departure from Atlanta after 15:00 on the last day (the group will be delivered to Jackson International Airport no later than 13:30).
