In the Bavarian Alps, near the Austrian border, stands the fairytale castle of King Ludwig II of Bavaria — Neuschwanstein Castle.
King Ludwig II conceived the castle as an architectural masterpiece inspired by the Middle Ages and personally approved every design. Many considered the castle his personal achievement and creation.
The interior decoration is largely devoted to illustrations inspired by Wagner’s operas and ancient German legends. It is traditionally said that Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, captivated by the view of Neuschwanstein, conceived the idea for Swan Lake here.
Neuschwanstein later became an inspiration for the magical world associated with Walt Disney.
